SIMEC Research Center is committed to advancing knowledge while ensuring that research is conducted with the utmost ethical consideration. Our Research Ethics Board brings together experienced and highly skilled scholars from a range of disciplines who are well equipped to review, advise, and guide research projects. By integrating multidisciplinary expertise with global ethical standards, the board supports researchers in designing responsible, respectful, and impactful studies.

All research conducted under or in collaboration with SIMEC Research Center must adhere to the following principles:

  • Respect for Human Dignity – Protect the rights, integrity, and autonomy of all participants
  • Informed Consent – Ensure voluntary participation based on clear and transparent information
  • Privacy and Confidentiality – Protect personal data and respect anonymity whenever requested or necessary
  • Integrity and Honesty – Avoid fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or misrepresentation of data
  • Beneficence and Non-Maleficence – Maximize benefits while minimizing risks or harm to individuals, communities, and environments
  • Justice and Inclusion – Promote fair access, avoid discrimination, and consider gender, age, cultural, and social equity

These guidelines apply to:

  • SIMEC Research Center’s own research projects
  • Collaborative projects with partner institutions
  • Independent researchers seeking ethical clearance through SIMEC Research Center.They cover social sciences, humanities, policy research, environment and climate studies, STEM research, AI and digital security, gender studies, cultural studies, and health-related research

  • Ensure research questions, methods, and outcomes respect human rights and cultural sensitivities
  • Avoid exploitation of vulnerable groups (youth, women, refugees, migrants, indigenous communities)
  • Ensure transparency in funding sources and potential conflicts of interest
  • Uphold open, responsible, and accurate communication of research findings

  • Collect only the data necessary for the research purpose
  • Store data securely and in compliance with data protection standards
  • Obtain consent for the sharing, publication, or secondary use of data
  • When working with AI, IoT, or digital data, ensure cybersecurity, minimize surveillance risks, and uphold digital rights

  • Engage communities respectfully in participatory or action research
  • Recognize local knowledge and ensure benefit-sharing
  • Avoid environmental harm in research design, particularly in projects involving climate change, energy, and urban development

  • Researchers must submit an Ethics Review Form before starting their project
  • The Research Ethics Board of SIMEC Research Center will assess projects based on risk, sensitivity, and compliance with these guidelines
  • Feedback will be provided to strengthen ethical standards in design and execution

  • Acknowledge all contributors fairly
  • Disclose funding sources and conflicts of interest in publications
  • Prioritize open access and knowledge-sharing when possible

  • Respect cultural differences and adhere to local legal frameworks across countries
  • Collaborate equitably with international partners
  • Prevent predatory and exploitative research by ensuring meaningful involvement of local researchers and communities
